I have a client who has removed wallcovering in a bathroom, but did not wash old paste off walls before priming the area with Shildz latex wallcovering primer leaving some rough areas.
Some spots can be sanded down for a better appearance but my main concern is if this surface is sound enough for new wallcovering?
Any chance of the paste breaking down behind the primer?

I would take a scraper, not a 6" tape knife, but one of those thick 4" angled ones. Scrape suspect area's well. If the paste is loose, It may just break away, taking the paint with it. Skim coat, sand and reprime. I would offer no guarantee's, since the client is the one who did removal and primed over the paste. I've seen paste do some funky things, so compromising the integrity of the primer film would not surprise me.
