Just a quick question, I am wondering what the ingredients of the paste in prepasted wallpaper borders ae made of, and if they ever have animal products in them. Thanks

Not sure as I am not a chemist. I am under the impression though that most prepaste wallcovering adhesives are starch based.

I also am not a chemist ----- nor do I play one on T.V. ------ but from all the investigating that we have done, many wallpaper adhesives are pastes produced from vegitable starches, be it corn, rice, wheat, potato, and such. I have heard from some reliable sources that cellulose is used for the prepasteds. Cellulose is extracted from wood and plant fibers.

May I ask why you want to know? If you have ethical concerns, I do not think they would apply to pre-pasted wallpaper. If you have sensitivities to certain substances, I wonder if prepasteds have mildewcides and biocides (to prevent the growth of mold and mildew) and if they would cause problems for anyone.

If we know your concerns, we may be able to call appropriate people and either assuage or confirm your fears.

Thank you so much, my concerns are due to sensitivities... and so I try to stay away from most animal based products. You are very helpfull here ! The exact brand of wallpaper border is Waverly Home Classics Wallpaper (for kids) made in Canada...any and all help is most appreciated .
