I used one of those "Kitchen & Bath" pastes on paper in my bathroom and there are places where the paste apparently didn't wipe off completely and left shiny spots. I tried water, then "409" and even Dawn dishwashing liquid, but it's still there. The paper seems to have a washable vinyl surface. Help.

I would try to use a paste removal solution such as Diff or my favorite Safe and Simple http://www.safeandsimple.com/.

If your in a bath, close off doors and windows, and turn on the shower on HOT. Go to lunch. Enter steamroom in your bathing suite ( optional ). Srub walls with warm water and a srub brush or scotch brightpad. Not much can stand up to the apartment house removal method. If this does not help, try coating walls in elmers glue, then Bulls eye 123, then your finish. If that does not work, sheetrock your walls; If the other routes fail, you'll wish you had rocked em right out of the gate. You may want to canvas them and then paint. Good luck, your gonna need it.
