How to Prepare Luan Plywood?

How should I prepare new, raw , unfinished luan plywood for receiving wallpaper? I plan to use a highly textured paper on the walls and 34" wainscoating.

Luan should be sealed; I've used both alkyds, and Bulls Eye 1-2-3 (acrylic). I would bet that you're going to have to finish the luan just like you would sheet rock: mud the screw holes and tape the joints, as no matter how 'heavy' a wallcovering is, that stuff will show through.
