Spot on silk wallpaper due to paste - tried to clean and left water ring. About 2 inches across. Any suggestions on how to remove?

I hate for your only reply from this forum to be a negative one, but I didn't want you to feel that nobody acknowledged you either. I have never had any success getting paste or anything off of silk. By the same token, since I'm a "professional", and get paid to do this, I tend not to get paste on silk. There's been maybe one or two instances over the years where I had a piece of silk with a stain from paste. I tried to get it off, and when I saw it wouldn't come off and dry out, I chucked the piece and replaced it. This isn't very helpful to you, I realize, but you see, if any hanger on this forum admits to getting paste on silk he's going to be heckled fiercely by all.<BFG> Maybe someone will find a way to reply anonymously. If you get no satisfaction here, try contacting a cleaning outfit, as they no doubt have had some experience with silk.

I recently did a dining room with a nice silk. Now, while I was out of the room, one of the kids must have come in and put a little adhesive on the wallcovering. When I returned, I tried to get it off but it didn't work. So, because of this kid, I just replaced the whole piece. Because of the kid.

I'm replying to myself here. My edit actually didn't come through. I wanted to edit my reply to include <BG> after my statement that no hanger would admit to getting paste on silk. I'm a new guild member and I don't participate on this forum much, other than reading it every day. I am observant of the dynamic that goes on between everyone who knows each other, and the ribbing that goes on. Jeff

Ok, this is really weird. The "big grin" symbol apparently doesn't show up on my replies. That's twice I've typed it and it hasn't posted. If you can't see that, then I can see how nobody can tell that I'm joking. I think I need a course on how to use this forum. Ok, Stachnik, I'm going back under my rock now.

watch it, Jeff, this space under the rock is already crowded :disco: :disco:
we got all the renegades here from the delphi forum
First, are you using the "quick reply" (little icon on the bottom right) or the regular reply (Larger icon on bottom left titled "post reply) ?
the "quick reply" allows not any emoticons (smilies)
If you are using the regular reply panel and if you click on one of the emoticons to the right, it should place the code into the compose window. To preveiw your post and make sure it looks like you want, hit the "preview post" botton (next to the "submit reply" button).
If that doesn't work, speak to Bodine. He's a whiz a getting people set on this (although he can't figure out how to install a 250 Gig hard drive on his desk top PC :D :D )

:D :D :D Ok, there it is. Bill, you know from Delphi that I'm a bit of a wise arse, and that I don't have a mean bone in me, but on this forum, and without the aid of the emoticons, my post looks less than humorous. I can see that it would be easy to misunderstand me. Jeff

Yes Bill, be glad your smilies made it through all right. The 120GB went in fine TY, and is currently running smoothly. More on that on Delphi later.

UH OH, I'd better watch myself. Being a moderator, I think Tim DOES have the abilities to make people look even more foolish than they already are (although he would have a tough time making ME look worse :llama: I'm a master at doing it on my own)
Bill, you know from Delphi that I'm a bit of a wise arse,
No more than the rest of us
I'm surprised Mike hasn't joined Delphi and displayed his irrevalence there also. He's one of us. Excellent craftsman, good sense of humor, and can be another wise arse when called upon
And now that we've totally hijacked poor David Allen's thread, perhaps we should ask others not on this forum if they have any ideas. My only personal experience is Rule #1 - do not get paste on silk.

Emoticons aside...I have gotten adhesive on the silk ,string , grass and just about every other paper I wasn't supposed to..i have made every mistake I never intended or thought I would make..I have even blamed it on the paper, the homeowner ,the dog .....bottom line..replace the panel..there is no cleaner that will get rid of the adhesive ..live and learn..:help: ask for help:help: ..do all the things you know you should ,but don't ....Be a better paperhanger thru learning from your mistakes..it is the only way!
Good Luck!

Double cut (Jeff) -- Mia Culpa, Mia Culpa;
I apologize. I had you mixed up with someone that posts on the APN, is very derogatory to the guild, and makes wise-crack/peanut gallery comments to not only guild members, but installers in general. And since we look out for our own, I took this as a dig on the guild. I have been informed that this is not you, and that your reply was meant to be taken a little tongue-in-cheek. And since I can be one of the more "wittier" (my wife calls it obnoxious) posters, this one, I have to say, flew right over my head. As the Doonesbury comic said yesterday...9/11! Please excuse me as I go find a bigger rock.

Yes, I think I know who that guy is, and he's a real beaute. No worries Mike. I figured my homies from the Delphi forum would take up for me. Good upstanding citizens like Bill "OG" Archibald, and Tim "Slim but I aint Shady" Bodine. The Horses head delivery has been cancelled my friend. :D :D Jeff
