I could use some tips on getting a tight outside corner wrap, when hanging
heavy commercial vinyl.
thanks

Velcro the corner, meaning roll a thin coat of clay on it, and let dry.

Then, as you wrap it, use a heatgun on the vinyl to soften it up, and wrap it tight. Hit the corner with a wet sponge quickly to re-set the 'memory' of the vinyl.

Cliff could probably explain it better.

Actually, click here (http://www.ngpp.org/lounge/showthread.php?t=1249) and read this thread. Cliff even has some pics of it on his website.

Find a piece of scrap carpet, short nap. Scrap from a commercial install works great. Cut a rectangle about the size of your hand, say 3" x 6". Fold in half along the short dimension. (this should cut across the 3" dimension) Cut the backing across your fold. Do not cut all the way through. Fold and use to smooth the corner once you've velcroed, heated, and stretched it. Got this idea from Western Carolinas Chapter member Danny Murdock.

1)On some jobs I will book the vinly vertical, not horizontal as you would pulling it off the machine. This help to preset the vinly to the corner. You will need to figure were you corner will be say 18" from the left side of you drop. Open your panel on a clean drop and rebook to 20" (18" plus 2" for you double cut overlap) this will preset your corner crease. I only do this on jobs were a heat torch /heat gun or velcro is not working. I have only had to do it this way twice in 19 years. Once with heavy weight vinly wallcovering and once due to the cold, the heaters were not keeping up.

2) If you are working were it is warm out side you can put you drops outside to warm them. Cover with plastic so they will not dry out. This will soften the vinly. If you do this be sure to number your drops so you do not hang out of order you cut them from the bolt.
