I am working on a remodeled garage apartment. The ceiling and upper walls will be in a toile wallpaper (bead board and chair rail surrounding room). My question is... what is the best way to match the pattern from the ceiling to the wall? should I double cut? any great tips to add for hanging the ceiling?
any help is appreciated.
thanks.

First of all, and I know you know this, but with a toile, the pattern from the ceiling onto the walls will only match on one wall. Myself, I like to do the ceiling first, leaving about an eigth of an inch overlap onto the walls. Next, I paper the wall where the pattern will continue from the ceiling. When final trimming, I just very carefully cut along the ceiling line. Use a new blade for each cut and you don't have to press to hard. From my experience, I have found it nearly impossible to keep the pattern matching (ceiling onto wall), as I progress from piece to piece. It's probably just me! Anyway, toile's are usually pretty busy, and nobody but you will notice if it's off a little bit. Good Luck!

Sorry, didn't see the second part of your question about tips for hanging paper on the ceiling. If there is something big in the ceiling that cant be removed, like a ceiling fan or big hanging light, you will want to layout the paper so a seam will go through the middle of this obstacle. If possible, I remove the decorative rings of any recessed lights, and any a/c vents. I like to snap a chalk line as a guide for my first piece.
I use two ladders with an extendable plank as a platform for the installation. Get the paper started at one end, and walk along your platform, smoothing the paper as you go. When the entire piece is up, you can go back and do any touch up's. While you might have visions of the paper falling off onto your head, it actually stays up pretty good. I always tell customers how difficult ceilings are, but really there not that hard!

My trick for ceiling hanging is a wide clean push broom on an adjustable painters pole. I drape the paper half unfolded across the broom, place it against the ceiling in the proper place, there is enough give in the bristles of the broom to gently hold it in place. I position three feet or so on my ladder, then re position the paper and pole out another three or four feet until I get to the fold, unfold and proceed....does this make sense...it really is easy for me when there are obstacles preventing the walk board.
