I have just started working for a painting company. My boss insists that we paste the wall and hang the paper dry. Is this not crazy? How can I explain to him how wrong this is.

Sorry Brian. Although the majority of wallcoverings need to be pasted and booked to expand, there are many others that are best dry hung. As you know, if you have been keeping up with industry developments, many manufacturers are heavily promoting "non-woven" substrates for many residential goods. Being dimensionally stable they can be dry hung, some of them REQUIRE that they are dry hung.
And then you have many sensitive textiles that should be dry hung. I think it was 1978 +/- when I first dry hung a wallcovering.
So I wouldn't, if I were you, start berating your new boss's lack of knowledge until you investigate exactly which material he is saying needs to be dry hung.

Commercial vinyl gets dry hung all the time. I prefer the machine, but before I got one, we dry hung.

When confronted with the many ways to hang wallcoverings these days , I often find myself asking ....What would Zeke do?
I actually am going to dry hang a non woven 54" from Carlton V..gee I can't wait.:furious:
Although I am not a big fan of the "dry" hang I do what it takes to "git it dunn"
If you are uncertain about which way to paste this, please post the specs .

Thanks guys very useful. i allways thought booking the paper made it grab the paper better and make the paper leasier to wok with.

Just depends on the type of paper.
