I was offered a small commercial job that had 700 yards of 54" vinyl. We started the job acouple of days ago.The material was hanging very well till we started a wall that had alot of nature light on it.This is when I noticed a problem. There was glue all over the front of the sheets.I asked the other paperhanger that was pulling the sheets to come look at this.I new it was not his fault, because there was way to much glue on the front of the sheets.Well, after looking at the material we found out it was micro vented. The venting holes were so big that the glue was bleeding through the sheets when swept out. This also made for alot more washing of the material. The job was finished and look great, but took longer than we would have liked it too.Has anyone else had this problem? Funny you should mention this , I have not hung it but did read about it as I was getting ready to install a fabric back vinyl from a company that apparently makes this stuff Len-Tex wallcoverings...they say to use a special paste from Zinnsser? Sure- Grip "VP" adhesive and Shieldz "VP" primer:confused:

From Len -Tex installation instruction sheet:
MICROVENTED wallcovering is made breathable by microscopic penetrations.
"to prevent adhesive "bleed-thru" the wallcovering adhesive must be applied undiluted - do not thin with water."

their website is www.lentexcorp.com

it is actually a pretty good instruction sheet. Did Tim write this one too...;)

Thanks Mark.I have hung materials that are micro vented before, but not one that bled like this.I cannot remember the last time I thinned my glue down for 54" vinyl.I was using Ultra Clear 880 and the first batch of glue I recieved was brown in color.I called in the batch # and found out that the glue was expired in May.The glue did not have any smell it was just brown. So I replaced the glue and finding Sure- Grip "VP" adhesive would be tough to do.A sign of the times. One very good thing is the micro venting works great on walls that have been floated and then prime. When you have a gas reaction the venting lets the gas escape.:llama: Rusty

I have seen this too, what I have done is to use my pasting machine without paste. I roll paste on the wall and let it dry some then hang the sheets dry. In your case you might have had "macro" vents. I would have only washed the area by the seam after cutting it, let it dry some more then wash the whole sheet with well wrung out spounge and toweled dry. (a little dif in the wash water)

Omnova usually suggests that their micro vented stuff be dry-hung (as in paste the wall) It is a higher PITA factor, but you can go pretty fast with one guy rolling a couple of sheets ahead - by the time you hang it has tacked up just slightly. Also, if you tape your seams you will have no ooze and no washing - much faster.
