I read the posting of this and had never seen anyone use a torch. I'll give it a try with heavy, 24 to 30oz, goods. For the most part I can break the spine, so to speak, of the vinyl before wrapping. It depends on goods used and a plethera of factors how I go about that. Prepasting corners is somthing I aways do until I'm confident the material I'm using is soft enough to wrap without it. I have to break out the heat gun once every 500yrds when using medium wieght, typical 15 to 20 oz, goods.

I have'nt seen mention of using steel taping knives to hang. Very curious as to why? Is it that most here are residential and specialty products installers? A 10" off-set knife without handle not only allows faster hanging of commercial goods but makes short work of tight outside wraps. Ofourse it's a dangerous tool to just pick up and use, but if the material allows it and with practice it becomes an essential and trusted member of your hand tool family.

Steel knives do work for giving a tight corner wrap, it's true, but the drawbacks are that they get deadly sharp and the steel can also damage the texture on some vinyls. When used to sweep the sheet, it can burnish it - especially some of the newer metallics. It wasn't so bad years ago, but many products these days can be damaged with steel. I wouldn't use one just as a 'matter of course' without checking first how touchy the surface is.

So true! This all goes back to knowing the product you are installing. Alot of material wil burnish even with a soft pastic smoothy when setting inside corners. Practice, practice and a whole lot of patience:)

I've seen experienced hangers damage goods or even rip material on outside corners no matter what they use:banghead: But you only do somthing like that once, right? Then you know what sort of material your dealing with.

After using the torch on outside corners rub the corner with a piece of carpet. Works great. I prefer to use a piece of accustacord.
