I will soon be installing new commercial wallcovering in two bathrooms in an old restaurant. There is currently those very old pink and grey ceramic tiles in each of the rooms. The tiles are very smooth, and the grout lines are not deep at all. I've never hung over ceramic tile before, so I figured I would throw it out to you guys (and gals). What are the proper steps? FYI - there will be wainscoating halfway up, so I will be able to railroad the paper.

Gee, this must be an extremely difficult question since no one has an answer. I'll make it easier. I'll tell you what I think I should do, and you tell me if you think I'm on the right track. First I'm gonna give a good coat of R35. Make it nice and sticky. Then I'm gonna install liner paper. More R35. Then my wallcovering. What do you think?

If it were me I would skim out the grout lines first then proceed as planned.

I think I'd use S-W's Bonding Primer(B51W50?); supposedly designed to work on glass and porcelain. Make sure the tiles are really clean. Skim the grout lines as needed and finish with a wallpaper primer. I guess R-35 would work but the paste moisture has nowhere to go, it will be wet for a long time. You might consider Romans 988/888 combination to control mold.
