Tom,
No one prep coat is best for all conditions. One would have to examine the walls and the wallcovering to choose the best for the situation.
I doubt any qualified NGPP member would answer that question of yours as you have put it. But I've been surprised before
Now, it has been suggested that you have appeared before on other forums as TomEHarp. Is that so? (We've asked this before and you have declined to answer)
If it is, you could REALLY improve your knowledge and skills by accepting the invite to join the CT Chapt of the NGPP and learning the answers to all your questions from some of the best in the land.
We know you have been offered rides to meetings, but for some reason this has not been possible. PLEASE make it possible !!!
You do yourself and the profession a disservice by trying to get overly simplified answers from us on this forum. There are too many variables to give absolute answers, but an experienced paperhanger should know that.....right?
endlessly hopeful

What else is there? A lot!!! Are you going over cheap flat? Semi gloss? Gloss? Polyurethane? Are you doublecutting? Bare drywall? Paste residue? Reinventing the wheel, NO, just good paperhanging.
