Hi,

I am hanging a Lincrusta Dado in my front hallway. I have a question about the proper way to hang the dado when going up the stairway. I believe it should follow the same vertical (plumb) line that the rest of the walls use. If this is correct, what height should it be? My walls will be at roughly 34" the dado is 36". If I do this then going up the wall I lose most of the top of the pattern. Any suggestions or tips? Is there a URL that I can be pointed to for instructions?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

When going up stairs I measure from the floor up at the bottom of the stairs and the top of the stairs and let everything in between fall where it will. As for loosing the detail on the top of the paper - On several occasions I have cut the detail off the top of the paper and turned it to run up the stairs below the dado rail. On a recent job I did the above and split the paper vertically based on the design you may split it one time or more. With this procedure you will have alot of double cutting to do but it does save the chopping up of the design. (let me know if you would like a pic of the above job to see how I did it.)

Hi Mark,

If you are using Lincrusta panels to go up the staircase you will find that it is designed so that the triangle you cut off the bottom fits at the top.

You must also cut the panels in half so that you can step them up the staircase.

Hope this helps.
