I'm not quite sure why I didn't get anybody to opine on my "Where's Ray Carden when you need him" thread, so I thought I'd take a different approach...
Has anybody ever stripped an overlay of vinyl that was affixed using VOV?? Can you??

I have not attempted to remove VOV. I was told that "Safe & Simple" #826 will work.

I nad to strip 2 bathrms in the same home. They both were installed over builders flat using VOV. The first was a solid vinyl that did a lot of damage to the drywall even using S&S 826, although it did help more than DIF.
The other was a PBV that the face readily peeled off leaving the paper backing and very little damage to the drywall. a coat of gardz overthe backing served as a makeshift liner and the new wallcovering went up wonderfully.

I'm doing reconnaisance for an conference room redo.
I was not involved with removal of the FBV that was overlayed atop a FBV substrate, so I don't know if there were any problems with the overlayed vinyl install.
My time spent looking at the job was limited so I didn't get a chance to see if the paste residue left atop the FBV substrate would soften.
However, I may be able to deduce the nature of the paste residue if someone can tell me if they've been able to dry strip a known VOV overlayed FBV.
I've never done a VOV overlay. I'm always looking to be able to remove what I put up, so if I were to be doing a FBV overlay atop an existing FBV, I would prime and use a strippable adhesive to ensure removal.
As far as I know, VOV is not designed to be strippable??
