We have always primed the walls for 54 inch vinyl with oil based shieldz. In New York City we are not allowed to use oil paints anymore. We now use latex shieldz, which I do not like but it has a shine and you are able to see what areas need preparation. I have on my last 2 jobs have run into a bubble problem. I have finally switch to guardz but since it dries clear we can not see what areas need preparation. Tried to mix shieldz and guardz, did not really like that. Any suggestions?:bash:
Thank you Larry

After reading Rebecca thread I am suppose to list that the walls are plaster and they are old and they have 54 inch vinyl which we are removing.

Did you use the oil shieldz,( or the water base for that matter). to aid double cutting ?

Is your search for a replacement product mainly to solve the bubbling problem? Is protecting the wall surface, promoting adhesion, ability to double cut safely part of the equation?

Was your bubbling problem wallc to surface, or the shieldz bubbled?

Larry take a white acrylic primer sealer and prim,e the walls with that first. You'll see what needs to be fixed. Then prime with Gardz. It works in my house.

Mix Gardz and 1-2-3. The resulting mixture actually resembles Shieldz White, but with less pigment. Dries in about a half-hour. Not as runny as Gardz, not as ropy as 1-2-3. I used a 50/50 mix last week in a laundry room, where we were expecting a primed wall but found new drywall. It worked fine.
