Those are pics of my old Hyde"Joanna knives",we cut the handles off .We would have 4or 5 working throwing them into the water bucket after each use, to soak away the residual adhesive. They became less popular after the introduction of the European versions .Since they didn't dig in and catch strings as much and were sharper blades they became the knife of choice.I have two versions of those"Swiss knives"(really from Sweden) or "Red" knives as the have been tagged, one has an offset handle and the other has a straight handle.

CANT SEEM TO GET USE TO IT. PULLS TO MUCH SLACK UNLESS YOU LAP IT OVER MORE.They work really well when run alongside a straightedge. It keeps the material pinned... I also remove the bent handle.

The one Guy is talking about, in my opinion, is one of the best on market. I know everybody has their own way with their own tools. With a little modification to the Swedish double cutter, makes it a lot handier and a couple of more inches at the bottom of the seam. The reason I cut this off is so that when the baseboards are off I can follow all the way through with my double cut and not have to stop and use a straight razor blade to finish the cut. As you will see in the picture below, cutting off the red angle gives you another 2 inches at the bottom of your seam. Another plus for the Swedish double cutter is the metal leg.It is longer than other that I have seen that are take offs of the Swedish double cutter.

THANKS FOR THE INFO HAVE NOT TRIED THAT ONE. I USE SINGLE EDGE BLADES FOR TRIMMING IT WAS EASY TO USE THE SAME BLADE IN THE SEAM BUSTER. I WILL ORDER ONE AND TRY IT.HOW MANY SEAMS CAN YOU DO ON AVERAGE WITH ONE BLADE.

For my first 20 years I used the Joanna knife. Then I discovered the Seambuster (the red handled cutter above) It took me 6 seconds to get used to it. And I now find it easier. The blades last longer and I can go half way down, work it out and then finish the cut when I get off my ladder. I also don't need a modified straight edge to keep the cutter running straight.

The modification as Rusty pictured is the same way I prefer to use them. They fit flat against the straightedge without doing anything special. Each blade provides 4 swapable edges. It really depends on the material as to how many cuts per edge. I would agree that the Swedish cutter's blades might stay sharper longer. Their profile is much like the old double-edge razor blades...

I have used one corner of the blade as many as 20 times on light weight vinyl but generally change at 10 for safe keeping. Some tougher vinyl will eat them up faster, but I get the German made blades. They seem to be sharper and last longer.
I'm with Adam, I use three seam busters and keep throughing them in my wash water to keep clean. Also, make sure they are removed before throughing out the rinse water. For obvious reasons. Try 'em, yu'll like them.
