I am doing a rehab on a bathroom. I have white wainscoting going up from the floor the whole 8 ft. Above that I have about 20 inches to cover with the paper. I want to use the paintable paper since I have read it covers imperfections. The wall were previously paneled with lots of liquid nail. Ruining my smooth plaster walls. This stuff says prepasted. It is a few years old.I purchased it on a close out sale. I had it in storage for a future project. Should I just go ahead and use paste? What type of paint? I have filled in most of the imperfections and getting ready to prime with Zinnsser Shieldz. It is mildew resisitant . Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Hi Kim
You could try a sample piece to see how well the pre paste works. I typically use a watered down adhesive such as Metylan Heavy Duty Blue box.. I mix three times more water than they call for , for most pre pastes. Most any pre mix clear adhesive will work well too, but still watering it down is a good idea.
In my opinion more important than the adhesive is the wall prep. The key to your success will be to ensure that the walls are prepared for wallpaper and that they are clean , smooth and primed. Shieldz acrylic is a good choice for a wallpaper primer. :tiphat:

If you are talking about anaglypta it will show lumps. Make the walls as smooth as possible. Seeing as it is old I would recommend pasting it with paste. Roman's 880 or comperable adhesive. Paint it a few days later. Use any paint you want. As far as a primer I personally don't like Shieldz. Use R-35 or Gardz. Best of luck.

Kim,
Will you be priming/sealing your plaster repairs prior to applying the Shieldz ?
If you were not planning on doing so, a coat or two of Zinsser's Gardz may be a good idea.
Obviously without seeing your repairs (gosh darn, that must have been a chore - knowing how liquid nails can rip apart a wall) nor seeing the paintable wallcovering, we can not determine if it will cover the imperfections to your satisfaction - but let's assume it will.
Mark mentioned, "Most any pre mix clear adhesive will work well too", and Lee mentioned Roman 880.
My paste of choice would also be the 880 watered down. And for you, a homeowner, that paste would be easier.
How much water? Ahhhh, that's also a difficult question to answer without having the wallpaper in hand. Some prepasteds like a very thin mix, some like a thicker. As Mark suggested, testing a sample would be beneficial.

I want to use the paintable paper since I have read it covers imperfections.Perhaps by now you are well into your project... "Imperfections" runs a pretty broad spectrum as does what one expects to be acceptable results using an anaglypta. For example, slightly "wavy" plaster, yet smooth, would probably lend itself well to an application of anaglypta. Whereas, a sheetrocked wall with unattended nail pops might just point to an installer who didn't perform due diligence and follow the manufacturer's recommended "smooth wall" instructions...
As Bill pointed out, not being able to see your problem leaves us at a definite disadvantage to be able to advise whether the anaglypta would indeed hide the construction adhesive divots or protrusions.
Most wallpapers as they dry will conform to the substrate and, if not smooth, will telegraph unattended "imperfections."
