I have a problem in my bathroom. I want to take off the wallpaper and then paint. The problem is that when I started pulling off the wallpaper, the vinyl outer paper came off easily but the backing has remained on the wall. I'm not sure if I can paint over this backing or if I should try to remove it also. It is really stuck on the wall except at the seams where I have pulled any lose backing off. Should I try to wet it and see if it will pull off or should I just paint over it? I'm afraid that it might bubbly up if I just paint it.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Tib, Just wet it down with something ( sponge, mister, garden sprayer ) and some hot water and it should come off.If not, post back here or email me direct and I can tell you more if needed.

TIB,
Dont try to paint over that paper backing, it will bubble as soon as it is wet with latex paint, the correct way to remove it is to score the paper lightly with a tiger claw tool (sold in most paint and paper stores) and then apply a wallpaper stripper solution gel with a brush and roller or you could try plain hot water. Soak the paper backing real well then remove with a putty knife or paper scraper. After, clean walls well with a scotch brite pad and prep for paint or new paper.
