My wife and I are moving into a new house and we discovered a wallpaper on the dining room and living room walls. The paper resembles the old "tin type" ceilings. It appears to be vinyl with a embossed surface. The wall covering is well hung and hard to find seams, and does not look like any removal solution will penetrate the surface. I doubt attempts to score the surface will do the trick either. I was wondering if this type of paper is "peelable" and would leave a paper backing on the walls which then could be removed with conventional paper removal solutions. I'm concerned with removal due to the fact that there are sheetrock walls behind this paper and I would like to minimize any wall damage. The dining room only has paper half way up from the middle of the walls to the ceiling, but the livng room has paper from the floor to the ceiling and on two walls. Can you suggest any removal methods which would minimize damage to the sheetrock?

See my posts to "Removing Liner." Yes, this paper should have a 'peelable' vinyl face. You may also have to use a relatively sharp broad knife (5-6" blade, also called a taping knife) to get the face off. Remember patience and moisture are the keys to getting paper off drywall without much damage, and Gardz and Draw-Tite will help fix any damage that results.

Does the embossed paper have a spongie soft raised texture or a press in texture? The sponge papers are the ones that come with a paper backing and can be peeled off paint and all then wet the backing paper for about 10 min. and peel it away. If it is the other then I tend to dry shave with a 4" razor wallpaper removal tool. Like Chris said with patients it can be done.
