I am installing the zuber scenic panels and I was trying to find information on paste mixture ratios, (cellulose - wheat). Also, what would be the best sizing, once the liner paper is installed?

Kirk,
I recently saw pictures of a Zuber in Nashville that went awry; be careful.
Visit my site and an article I wrote for a presentation: http://scenichanger.com/scenics.html
Why are you not in the Guild, bud?

Chris,
Kirk's profile says he's a member at large.
Must be a new member as he's not in the Resource Guide - Welcome aboard, Kirk, when did you join?
Do you hang a lot of these tricky materials ?

Hi Kirk,
What is the installation time frame? Is the mural in yet or does it need ordered? What is the name on the mural?

PS - deffinitly go to Chris Murphy's web site, he is an awsome source of information on these types of murals.

I joined the guild last April, this is my first scenic installation, and I do feel a bit over my head. I have been installing for eleven years here in Nashville and Los Angeles, hanging raw silk to various high end papers. I am confident in my ability but extremly cautious. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. This mural is here and ready to be installed it is a discontinued mural. The scene is a white background with grey and black foilage and the prominent feature is an urn, not the typical ones that I have seen.

Sorry about not seeing your membership; feel free to call 404-368-3063.
#1, if you can hang silk, meaning 'working clean,' you can do this.
#2, you say that it is discontinued; take a look at the Memphis photos on my site (see the Gallery) and see if this is the same- "Les Lointains" (Classic Landscapes). They have many of this type, the colors can be varied - like colorways on regular prints. They are generally easier than the better-known scenics that have the blue sky; although neither tolerates paste or water on the face, the other colors (than blue) don't expand unevenly from scene to sky. If this is an old print, there could be problems with the inks cracking, especially as it is unrolled. Get back with me on that.
#3, you'll want to size with a 50/50 mix of water with whatever paste you are using. Take note that the liner needed is 'blankstock' liner; sources are listed in the Scenics article, go for the 28". You could also try to build in muslin, as that makes the scenic removeable (not easily peelable, but removeable with care & broadknives).
As I note in the article, different highly competant hangers use different pastes, and mixes of those pastes. The only paste I would not recommend is the one that Zuber cites, Metylan cellulose: no matter what, you will end up with gapped seams.

Hi Kirk,
Good to see you on line here! It is great to have another member so close. I hope you are making plans on attending the Convention in Maine in September. I still want us to meet and talk over lunch one day soon.
