Heavy fabric on wall

I need to apply heavy fabric on walls. Upholstery type. Needs to stick pretty well. Adhesive suggestions?

Dano, thank you for your reply. The walls are "theatrical" -- made out of lumber. Do you suggest that I mix the P.V.A adhesive with a little bit or water, spread it on top of the walls and them apply the fabric dry. Or would you sugest some other approach? By the way, would Elmer's glue be P.V.A?

Excellent for the Do-It-Yourselfer and the most discriminating professional. Yet I was afraid it won't hold well enough. The show needs to travel. Are you familiar with this product?

I would use a clay-based adhesive. Thin it a little bit (or have the store shake it), roll on a thin coat, let it dry completely, roll a second thi coat on top of the first coat, and then dry hang immediately. Time-tested method. Where is the job? Several of us are in Jersey.
