Electric panels

Is it ok to paper over electric panels. Looks as though I'll have to pull the panel and paper over the edges. I think I remember hearing this may be against some code. Anyone know for sure?

In my part of the world, its against code.
Firefighters/whatever are to be able to find it easily in the dark, and wrapping or painting will hide it.

I wouldn't do it myself. I will show a customer how I wrap a plate, and tell them to do it the same way themselves.

as a paperhanger and a former voluneer fire chief I have papered electric panels.
in my corner of the world there is no regulstion against it, however, I did give thought to it and since it was in a rather conspicuous place it would have looked like a sore thumb w/o paper.
in your area i suggest contacting the state fire marshall or your local FD.
