    Going rates?

You could call me the 'handy man' as I do it all and love it; hence Renaissance Man.

A customer wants me to do a paper hanging job for them. It's been a while but I have done it for myself in the past with 'great' results. My challenge is pricing.

I am confident I can do the job. I don't skimp and don't accept/consider a job complete unless I would accept it in my home.

The customer is going to supply the paper; I know. It is going to be the Lowes/ Home Depot variety. I will not be responsible for product deficiencies.
Customer is going to attempt to remove existing vinyl :-) So I may need to include this in the job if they are overwhelmed.

    It is a combo job:
Bathroom 5 rolls total. 2 doors, vanity, med cabinet, toilet, tub/shower surround(paper above).

Kitchen/hall 8 rolls total: 2 doors, above/below upper cabinets, header openings, window over sink

Living room/stairs 8 rolls total: Entry door w/ arched window above w/ 13' cieling, paper in 3 stairwells(hard to explain) 7' bay wndodand a header opening.

I am in the Southern Dutches county area of NY and need to come up with a fair price. I don't want to gouge but I don't want to give it away either.

    Any thoughts?

I can't speculate on what prices are for your area, but I did want to comment on your rollage amounts. I think you are mistakenly quoting only half of the rollage. A bolt of wallpaper typically sold at HD/Lowes is a DOUBLE roll. Paper is priced by the single(usually) and sold in doubles(usually) There are exceptions, but at the box stores this is generally the case, so don't short yourself or your client! A bolt 20 1/2" by 33' is a DOUBLE roll. In my neck of the woods (Balto metro) $25-30 per single is reasonable for an experienced and talented installer and would involve covering switchplates, heat vents, etc. I charge $10.00 per single to prime and do minor wall patching.

    Re: Going rates?

Funny how there is only one response to this with all those views. Guess everyones got a pen and pad ready to adjust prices

I agree with the confusion with the 20.5X11yd rolls. I personally see more and more of those nowadays. (the GB stuff)

Can't tell you how many times I've told designers to get 10 rolls of paper and end up with 20.(ten 11yd "sleeves" ,as cole calls them). Explained over and over. Figured they were just dumb.... As a fox with all those extra cases of paper in there back rooms for the next "original design project", I guess.

I live in Jersey, 10 miles out of Manhattan. Can't really relate those prices to your area although it's NY. Different animal. I will say that given the rooms you refer to, I would quote a price for the entire job. Certainly not by the roll. Your time is money ,and what you want or need to make, you can only answer.

I only price the job. Just to many variables working with designers to lock into a roll number. IMO.

Also, that 25-30 rate for a reasonable job seems about right. All you have to do is define reasonable..... Good Luck

Central PA, State College area. Prep costs are job specific and hard to relay. Install prices if pricing by the roll, a single roll runs about $25 for run of the mill production papers. Switch plates included. Circular stairs, 20 foot foyers and specialty papers and fabrics start in the $35-40 range.
Charge a fair price, do a good job but don't sell yourself short.

    Re: Going rates?

    Thanks for the responses.
I did the calcs based on sq. footage and added 10% for trimming and, god forbid, mistakes

I understand that variables and unforseen wall conditions, etc., will affect pricing. Isn't that always the case for any job.

I hate pricing; don't want to give it away but need to be fair as well.
The job starts tomorrow, after a price is agreed upon.
    Thanks again.
