    Antique Gun Cabinet

Hi, I was asked if I can install fabric in this Antique Gun Cabinet. The inside of the cabinet is easy. What I need help/suggestions with is the insert pictured below. It's necessary for the gun barrels to rest on fabric. How would I be able to get acceptable seams for the approximately 1/2 inch strip needed for the odd shaped area? This piece would be mounted 3/4th of the way up with the bottom, front, and top showing. Does the fabric being velvet make it even harder to obtain a good seam? Thanks, Anthony

I can't really see the fabric color, but I'd think that you could prime with that paint color at seams. The reveal is probably pretty consistent, so after the 'crenellated' part was cut in, a piece cut to width could be laid down. That's what I'd try anyway. I have no idea how well the stuff would stay put under use.

Chris's suggestion of priming with the paint color is great. I'd use spray adhesive on the barrel rest portion of the cabinet. Cut the fabric that will be placed on the top 'shelf' surface of the barrel rest at a very steep bevel. That way the color from the backside of the fabric should not show. Same for the underneath portion.
I'd do the scalloped section with a single strip first and then the top and bottom. Test on a container with very sharp edges first--to see if the backside of the fabric shows when 2 pieces meet at a right angle.
