On March 19, 2005, about 30 wallcovering installers from 11 states gathered in Middletown, Ohio, half way between Dayton and Cincinnati for an enjoyable and educational day of seminars and hands on demonstrations to enhance their professional careers.
Prior to the workshop, Glen Olsen, Jr., C.P. of the Chicago area administered the Certified Paperhanger Program examination. From the testing, Steve Terranova, Novacraft in Lakewood, OH was awarded his C.P. designation.
The day’s program began with Jim Vogt, Sales Manager of Hollingsworth & Vose, one of the leading non-woven substrate manufacturers in the industry. Vogt spoke about the technological revolution non-woven substrates are making on the wallcovering industry.

Ken Lambert, C.P.
Following Vogt’s presentation, Steve Terranova, C.P. of Novacraft, Lakewood, OH demonstrated laser levels and their use on stairwells; Dr. Chris Campbell of Cincinnati State and Mark McLean, Webmaster Design Team, West Chester, OH presented the “Do’s and Don’ts of Website Designs”; Dr. Ed Myers, DC of Spaaaah! For Medical Wellness, Cincinnati, OH gave a demonstration on “Exercises to Help the Installer Prevent Stress on the Body.” Everyone agreed the right exercises provide the right stress relief.
During the two-hour lunch break, there was a mini-tradeshow with industry vendors including: Bladeater, Garnett Interiors, Hollingsworth & Vose, Muralo Paint, Robus Leather, Scotch Paint, Sherwin-Williams, Stoney Brook Wallcoverings, Wooster Brush and The Zinsser Company.

Thanks to our friends at Cavalier Wall Liner, Olfa, Bladeater, TPS Engineering and Garnett Interiors, most attendees went home with a little extra.
There was an awards ceremony with host Jack Heinrich, C.P., NGPP Lower Great Lakes Regional Director, giving out anniversary pins to those in attendance and welcoming four new members to the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers. Heinrich is already looking forward to next year’s regional workshop in Indianapolis, Indiana.
