August 2003
The Coastside Adult Day Health Center in Half Moon Bay, California, received a welcomed facelift this past August when the Northern California Chapter of the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers held their annual Charity Hang there. Affectionately known to the locals as "the Coastsiders", the Center offers a daily program of activities and health services for local seniors including: Physical Therapy, Group Activities, Occupational Therapy, Nutritional Counseling, Hot Lunches, and lots
more.
The event brought together skilled professionals from all over the Bay Area, to update the look and style of the Dining Room, Activity Room and adjacent Hallways. Chapter Member, Larry Charon who was instrumental in organizing the Charity Hang, worked the week prior to the event painting the trim and the rest of the walls. The much needed redecorating included installing 44 single rolls of 27 inch vinyl and 12 bolts of border; all donated by Sheila Daniels at Imperial Home Décor Group. Chapter Associate member, Jerry Peterson from Gardner-Gibson arranged for the donation of the adhesives for the event. Northern California Chapter Members who donated their time and talents include: Larry Charon, Gerri Beauvais, Jean Boles, Donald Foreman, Lauretta Jenkins, John Krause and Earl Wanbaugh. Other volunteers include paperhangers Steve Shlee, and Fred Crumb. Janie Bono, Executive Director of the center also helped with the painting and provided lots of tasty treats and cool drinks for the crew. After the job was completed, here's what she had to say: "What a fabulous job! All the participants, staff and volunteers would like to thank you very much for your time in providing the Center with such beautiful wallpaper. Everyone is delighted with the results, it looks beautiful!"
When the last piece of wallcovering was hung and the last tool was put away, they made their way to the home of Chapter Member, Larry Charon, his wife Suzanne, and daughter, Aliana. The hard working volunteers enjoyed delicious BBQ, home baked goodies, and had a fun time relaxing. Chapter President, Lauretta Jenkins, shared these comments, " I believe the Northern California Chapter and the Guild as a whole are a group of truly charitable craftspeople who give freely to brighten the lives of others. We look forward to these events each year and can't wait till the next opportunity arises!"
